EV charging cable: how the price is built
Charging cable is a specified product, so its price follows the specification rather than a list. This page explains which parameters move the cost and how a comparable quotation is assembled.
This page intentionally contains no prices, price ranges or currency amounts.
What drives the cost
- Conductor cross-section and conductor material: this is normally the largest single cost item, and it follows directly from the current the cable must carry.
- Jacket compound: low-smoke zero-halogen, cross-linked polyethylene and polyurethane compounds sit at different material cost levels and require different processing.
- Cores and shielding: additional cores and screening add material and a processing step.
- Certification scope: each destination adds its own testing requirement, which is amortised across the order rather than charged per metre.
- Freight mode and packing density: cable is heavy and bulky relative to value, so the shipping decision is a real cost line.
How to lower your landed cost
- Fix the construction and vary the cross-section: this is the single cleanest way to trade current rating against cost.
- Confirm the installation environment before choosing the jacket, so no cost is spent on a rating you do not need.
- Consolidate orders to one delivery pattern so certification work is amortised over more metres.
- Match the packing to the container: better booked density reduces the freight line without touching the product.
How to get a comparable quotation
- Send the specification: parameters, certification requirement, destination port.
- Confirm volume and delivery pattern: trial order, repeat order, or annual frame.
- Receive supplier options with documented evidence - specification, certification, capacity.
- Compare like for like, then confirm the order route. Trade and payment run on Alibaba.com.
