Cable jacket materials compared: LSZH, XLPE and PUR

Chengdu manufacturing partner · 2026-09-24

Low-smoke zero-halogen compounds are chosen where people occupy the space, because they limit smoke density and acidic gas in a fire. Charging installations in enclosed car parks are the typical case.

Cross-linked polyethylene is chosen for heat and ultraviolet exposure, which is why outdoor solar strings use it. It tolerates higher continuous conductor temperatures than thermoplastic compounds.

Polyurethane is chosen for mechanical abuse and continuous flexing, such as drag chain service in machine tools and handling equipment. Each choice moves the product into a different test scope, so the jacket decision should be made before the certification conversation, not after.
